Farm with vineyard in Castelnuovo Berardenga - Siena
Farm with vineyard in Castelnuovo Berardenga - Siena
The farm is located in the southern part of the Chianti Classico Gallo Nero production area, between the last foothills of the Chianti mountains and the initial part of the Crete Senesi, at an altitude of approximately 270 meters above sea level.
The farm has a long tradition in producing high-quality wines, vinsanto (sweet wine), and olive oil.
It has received various awards for the quality of its wines, which it bottles and sells directly from its cellars to retailers and consumers.
The wine cellar was built in the mid-19th century but has been adapted to meet today's functional needs and has a capacity of 1,400 hl. Above the cellar are the vinsantaie (barrique-aged vinsanto) and tasting rooms.
The farm is organic and covers a total area of approximately 30 hectares, including:
• 5,4767 hectares of D.O.C.G. vineyards. Chianti Classico Gallo Nero
• 1.2245 ha Chianti IGT vineyard
• 1.5000 ha recently planted Chianti IGT vineyard
• 2.5000 ha Olive grove
• 19.0000 ha Arable land
The vineyards are all in prime locations and enjoy excellent exposure. The microclimate is characterized by significant temperature variations between day and night, and often medium-high temperatures even during harvest time.
The estate has a tap-operated drinking water source with a sufficient flow rate to
also allow drip irrigation for the newly planted vineyards and olive groves, and also supplies the cistern located near the cellar. In addition to the agricultural buildings (warehouses, sheds, and sheds), the estate also includes a 180 sq m apartment (rural) with 6 rooms and 4 bathrooms, and two apartments totaling 110 sq m (urban) with 4 rooms and 2 bathrooms. The apartments can be connected and can be combined into one large residential unit.
The farm is served by a natural gas distribution network, allowing gas to be used both in the cellar and in the apartments. Currently, the farm's vineyards cover a total of 8.2 hectares, aiming to produce a quality product.
Therefore, with appropriate, non-intensive pruning and interventions, in good conditions, an average of 80 quintals of grapes per hectare is obtained, of which 75 quintals/ha are DOCG*, with the hope of being destined for IGT
(wine yield is 70%). Wine production is approximately 60,000 bottles/year.
*The Chianti Classico Gallo Nero D.O.C.G. recognizes a maximum of 75 quintals of grapes per hectare, compared to the
actual grape production.
The farm also produces an excellent Vin Santo, particularly suited to aging. It has a production of 8.00 quintals of Vin Santo D.O.C. Chianti Classico.
The olive trees produce approximately 30-40 quintals of olives per hectare, with an oil yield of 15-20% in standard years. The same reasoning applies to wine, with appropriate pruning and non-intensive interventions to obtain a quality product. The olive groves cover 2.5 hectares, and
an average of 1,800 kg of oil is produced annually.
The arable land (hilly terrain) produces approximately 30 quintals per hectare. The farm has long cultivated
good-quality ancient grains. Currently, the arable land covers 19 hectares and produces 550-600 quintals of ancient grains annually. The arable land covers a large area suitable for cultivation, allowing for the expansion of the well-positioned vineyards by approximately another 12 hectares, and potentially even greater extensions, subject to appropriate agronomic and soil studies.
